the point is your story

Do you ever feel like you should blog about a specific thing? But wait, isn’t the beauty of a blog you own that you can write about whatever you want? Sometimes there might just not be a point.

The point is your story. (And, yes, that’s good enough.)

We recently launched a new website design for tena.cious (queue shameless plug) and my bio page includes a link to this here blog. I’ve had a few thoughts run through my mind with that new development. Things like, “Oh hey, people might actually read my blog now” and “Humpf, I tend to only blog about my personal journey in life” but seriously, that’s okay.

I like to think of myself as an open book. Right now in my life I’m going through something extremely personal and there has not been a day that I haven’t shared my personal life with my professional one — so why stop now.

Spending my days around totally fricken’ awesome + empowering women, I pick up a thing or two about business. Even business not related to design. And something I often notice when it comes to blogging, is the more you tell your story the more people want to read what you’ve got to say. Tena may or may not have written a blog about this. (I promise, no more plugs)

Considering that I’m not running a business or trying to sell you a service at the end of the day, you’re welcome to take what I’m writing with a grain of salt. But I truly believe the words I’m typing.

Working in the biz I do, I subscribe to SO many newsletters. You know how many of those newsletters I read? Neither do I.

Sure I skim a few + flag others for later, but there are seldom that I read all the time. I can almost immediately tell if the content of the newsletter or blog is going to pitch me into something or if it’s going to be full of real + raw stories and emotions from the author.

I am so drawn to the real + raw. I truly think a lot of people are. And guess what — when those people who write real + raw have something to pitch me, I listen. Because even though we’ve never met, I feel like I know them. How cool is that?

So anyways, my point. (Yeah there is one.) Don’t be afraid to share your story, even as you’re literally going through it yourself.

My story, right now, in this very breath, is infertility. Not a lot of people talk about it. Not a lot of people want to. But I know there are others out there, right now, going through this very same story of their lives and if I can connect with them, I want to.

Any fear of sharing or of not having a point in my words, isn’t going to stop me. Who’s with me?

xo,
Aly

❤️ This post. Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your story. Infertility puts you on an extreme roller coaster of emotions with high hopes and low realities. I have walked through the depth of infertility struggles and know how depleting it can be. Continue to use your voice to share is brave, and that brings hope and strength. It was a life saver to have a friend or two that had also experienced infertility and knew what to say and not to say and just got my heart in that time. If you don’t have any of those people in your life. I will gladly have coffee with you. You and the hopes of your heart are in my prayers.
